Ronda Sights

Circumnavigate the magnificent town of Ronda and see the different views of Ronda from great viewpoints in the surrounding countryside and hills of the Serrania de Ronda

This 35km self guided e-bike tour takes you on a circuit of Ronda’s main sights. The town is set on top of a hill and the route therefore includes lots of “ups and downs” but the e-bikes cope easily with everything.

Starting in the centre of the town, this e-bike tour will see you you ride over Ronda’s Puente Nuevo bridge and then head down a cobblestone street into the valley below the town for the most spectacular view of the bridge and 120m gorge which it spans.

Continuing on, you cycle through the historic old town and pass by the city walls, the Arab Bridge and Old Bridge. In the countryside surrounding the town you will see local natural springs and water fountains, vineyards and oak groves, as well as remains of a Roman Aqueduct.

Outside of the town itself this route uses mainly  quiet roads and dirt tracks.

Zahara & Lake Views

Take a ride through the Grazalema Natural Park, through Grazalema village and on to Zahara de la Sierra, finishing by cycling along Zahara’s beautiful lakeside

This self guided road cycling e-bike tour takes you through the heart of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, from Ronda to the white village of Montejaque, and then Grazalema and finishing in Zahara de la Sierra.

Route option 1 (58km) from Grazalema you will ride up to the high mountain pass called Puerta de las Palomas for spectacular views over the Serrania and Zahara lake.  This route finishes with an amazing 12km twisting mountain descent into the village.

Route option 2 (65km) this route omits Puerta de las Palomas pass and finishes instead with a descent from Grazalema directly to Zahara lake and you finish with a 11km ride along the edge of Zahara’s stunning blue lake to finish in Zahara village.

Both options include miles of small country roads which twist and turn amongst cork oak forest before heading into mountain countryside and the village of Grazalema.

The three villages you will pass through date from Arab times but all have a distinctly different look and feel: Montejaque is small and sleepy; Grazalema was a wealthier village, built on a large blanket weaving industry, so contains some grand old houses, and Zahara sits dramatically above a startlingly blue lake, with the remains of an Arab fort still dominating the skyline above the village.

This ride does not require you to ride back to Ronda, collection from the village is included in the price.

Acinipo & Setenil

Ride through the farmlands and hills north of Ronda. Visit  the hilltop Roman site of Acinipo then stop for lunch at the cavehouses and restaurants of Setenil de las Bodegas

This 48km self guided e-bike tour takes you on an undulating mountain loop via two of the oldest sites in the area. We ride through rural farmland and past woodland, hillside vineyards and acres of olive groves.

The first stop is at the Roman ruins of Acinipo, built on a high escarpment more than 2,000 years ago to house retired soldiers. Whilst most of the buildings have collapsed and only piles of
stones remain dotted around the site, the remains of the Roman theatre, originally large enough to seat 2,000 people, are well preserved (partially rebuilt) and impressive. A few yards behind the rear seats of the theatre is the edge of the escarpment, with amazing views across to the Grazalema mountains.

After a long and fun descent you will pass through the white village of Setenil de la Bodegas, another Roman settlement in its past but likely to have been inhabited for many centuries beforehand due to the unusually large overhanging limestone cliffs which create shelter from the prevailing elements. To this day, “cavehouse” dwellings built into the rock form the basis of many houses, shops and cafes—this is an ideal village to enjoy a short refreshment stop or lunch before heading back up to Ronda.

Montejaque & Cueva del Gato

Exit Ronda below the gorge and bridge and into the river valley to visit the hidden oasis of the Cueva del Gato. From here head up to the secluded mountain top village of Montejaque

This 41km self guided e-bike tour makes a circuit to the west of Ronda, passing through rural countryside and through two small, sleepy white villages. It includes a couple of good hill climbs and you will also enjoy some long, sweeping descents which are great fun.

From Ronda head down to the Guadiaro river, where you will make a short stop at the Cueva del Gato, “Cat Cave”. This local beauty spot, with a small waterfall and beautiful pool of crystal clear (but very cold!) water, it is the exit point of the 7km underground river which starts up in the mountains by the Hundidero Dam.  You will climb steadily up into the mountains and through the villages of Benaojan and Montejaque, and take a coffee stop or lunch on the village square.

Just beyond Montejaque, the abandoned Hundidero Dam hides within a narrow rocky gorge, providing us with a very scenic stretch of twisting mountain road which dips into the gorge and back out the other side. You will continue through arable countryside and ride down through cork forest into the valley of La Indiana, before riding back up the hill to Ronda.
